PFC Mercer Awarded Purple Heart
This event happened in Afghanistan this spring...
Here is the account from former Cadet Harrison Mercer, now PFC Mercer of the 173rd Airborne:
“We were on patrol and an RPG gunner was sitting behind a rock 75 meters in front of us to our 10 o’clock.
I was in the turret of my armored vehicle when an RPG hit the ammo can on the gun. This disabled the gun
and the concussion almost knocked me out. I was completely out of it for a good 10 minutes. Some shrapnel
from the blast came into the turret and hit my arm. When I was able to get out of the vehicle,
I returned fire with my M14 after SSG Seifert bandaged my arm.”
Harrison was awarded a Purple Heart. He deeply appreciates all of the people who are praying for him and t
he entire 173rd Airborne. A documentary film about Harrison’s unit was recently released. It is titled Restrepo. Look for it.

To graduate from Chamberlain-Hunt, seniors must not only pass their regular academic work. They must also complete a research paper, orally defend their paper
in the face of questions from a panel made up of the president, the principal and a teacher of the Cadet’s choosing, and turn the paper into a speech, which they
must deliver to the Cadet Corps, cadre, parents and friends. The speeches are judged on content and delivery, and the winner is awarded the prestigious Gage Award
at the final Pass in Review. This year’s competition was close, and Cadet Koers (CA) clinched a win by his smooth delivery. You can listen to a sampling of the
speeches by clicking on these links:
Cadet Koers’s “God...Where is He?”
,
Cadet Schaffner’s (AR) “Daddy Wasn’t There”

The caption beside a picture of Cadet Hahn and another very tall Port Gibson native reads: "The golden hand with the finger pointing to heaven atop the
First Presbyterian Church is Port Gibson's most famous and tallest landmark. But the southwest Mississippi town is gaining notoriety for two other towers,
7-foot-2 Jamarious Sykes (left) and 7-foot David Hahn."

PRESS RELEASE
The Board of Trustees of French Camp Academy and Chamberlain-Hunt Academy is pleased to announce its appointment of John Gardner "Jack" West
to the presidency of the 128 year old Chamberlain-Hunt Academy. He follows A. Shane Blanton, the Academy's president for the past nine years,
who resigned at the end of the 2008 school year to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Southern Mississippi.
West has been employed at Chamberlain-Hunt for five years as the director of advancement, overseeing the Academy's admissions, alumni, development
and public relations efforts. Prior to his being at Chamberlain-Hunt, he served as vice president for development at Reformed Theological Seminary and
other positions that make him the ideal person to assume this new responsibility.
West, who grew up in Jackson and graduated from Jackson Preparatory School, earned his BA in history at the University of Mississippi, an MEd in school
administration from Reformed Theological Seminary, an MDiv at Covenant Theological Seminary and a JD at the University of Notre Dame. He is currently
enrolled the Master of Fine Arts program at Mississippi College, where he is studying sculpture. A life-long Presbyterian, West serves as a deacon in a
congregation of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
John Blossman, chairman of the board of trustees, said that the education, work experience and testimony that West brings to the presidency will further
benefit Chamberlain-Hunt's Christian mission to young men from across the US.
